An Original TypewriterYour assignment is to research one technology, summarize and explain how it works. You may add photos, links, or quotes to compose your answer. Please use your own words for the response – do not copy and paste.

The answer should be long enough to accurately describe the technology to someone who may never have heard of it.

The Original Typing machineAlthough it might seem like something ancient, some people still use this. I don’t though. The only place i’ve seen it was in a museum. It uses no electricity, but mistakes aren’t easily corrected like computers. The keys are sometimes a little hard to push, but as soon as you get used to that, you won’t have any problems. The main uses are pretty obvious; writing, and things like bills; red for negative numbers, black for positive.
A typewriter kind of looks like a gigantic keyboard without screen. The way it works is, you have a ‘typebar’, with a letter on it. You have to push the key pretty hard so it hit a piece of ribbon. The ribbon could be any fabric, and it had to be inked. Most of the time there were black and red inked ribbons, and you could switch by pulling a lever. This was stretched out in front of a kind of cylinder which moved back and forth. The paper would be stretched around the cylinder, which could be rotated by a lever. If you wanted a new line, you would use that lever.
There isn’t really a person who invented it. There actually were 52 ‘inventions’ of which none really were the original inventions. The earliest form was made in 1714 and the latest around 1920.
This invention might still be used in 10 years, even though it already is replaced by something better; the computer.

Question #1 – How is technology used in education? (overall)

Technology is used for finding information on the internet, younger kids might play educating games, and someone might even use it to write neater.

Question #2 - How do you personally use technology in aiding your learning at NJIS (during school, homework, etc)?

I seek information, sometimes type things like essays, and search for images.

Question #3 – Does technology improve your education or create more complexity (therefore becoming a negative aspect)?

I do think that this almost only improves, and will help improving even more.

Hi, I’m Richard and new to WordPress. I really like computers and pretty much anything that has to do with them. I’ll post more another time, when I have more time.
